Neck Lift Surgery: Procedure

Neck lift surgery is mostly performed under general anesthesia or sedation. The procedure during the operation may vary depending on the consultation between the patient and the doctor. As a result of this decision; a traditional neck lift can be performed, or the surgery can be performed with a limited incision. In a conventional neck lift, the fat in the jowl is distributed and shaped. The tissue under the skin is repositioned. During this process, the platysma muscle is stretched. At the end of both procedures, the incisions are closed by using sutures or skin adhesives. If the absorbable sutures are not used, the stitches should remove by the surgeon after a few days.

A bandage is applied to the treated area for swelling and bruises that may be seen during the recovery period after neck lift surgery. Drain may be inserted to prevent excess blood or fluid under the skin. In order to reduce the possibility of infection and quick recovery, the surgeon gives the patient the precautions to be followed. It is recommended that the patient keep his head elevated. Cold compress directly to the neck area is generally not recommended, as this can affect blood flow and cause damage to the skin.
